SAC Annual General Meeting

Date: September 14, 2020

Meeting began at 7:05 PM  

Opening – Jeff DeHaan read from Ephesians 4:1-5, Romans 15:5-7, Philippians 2:1-4, Psalm 133:1, 1 Peter 3:8, Romans 12:4-6, John 13:35, John 17:22-23, 1 Corinthians 1:10.
Christ’s body is called to unity, humility, and love.  

Jeff opened with prayer  

Call to Order (Jeff DeHaan, chair)
33 active members and 2 congregants present.  

Approval of Agenda
MSC to approve the agenda as submitted.  

Approval of Tellers
MSC to approve Willis Kozak and Julie Mullins as tellers.  

Approval of Membership List
MSC to approve the membership list as amended. Don Sked, Linda Sked, Mike Tarasiak, Tambra Tarasiak, and Daniel Zylstra were removed from the published list as per Elders’ Minutes of October15, 2018.  

Approval of Previous Minutes
August 27, 2019 Annual Meeting Minutes – MSC to approve as submitted.

Reports:

  • Board of Elders by Jeff DeHaan.
  • Lead Pastor Report by Brent Foster.
  • Youth and Young Adults Pastor by Josh Ginn.
  • Director of Children’s Ministry by Kelly Kozak.
  • King’s Kids Preschool by Sara Kugler/Julie Mullins.
  • Worship Ministry presented by Dale Yushchyshyn.
  • Missions Committee by Brent Foster.
  • Small Group Committee by Brent Foster.

MSC to approve the reports as circulated/submitted.    

2019/2020 Financial Statements presented by Kelly Froese

  • Giving fell short of budget by $31k. Expenses were reduced as much as possible. There was a surplus of $68k for 2019/2020 due to COVID-19 wage subsidies and the reduced mortgage payments program offered by the Alliance District. The surplus was applied to the mortgage and to projects for upgrading the video capability.
  • Mortgage outstanding as of June 30, 2020 is $269,423.

MSC to approve the Financial Statements as submitted.

2020/2021 Budget presented by Kelly Froese (pre-recorded video)/Brent Foster

  • 3.9% decrease over last year – submitted a budget of $592,406.

MSC to approve the 2020/2021 budget as submitted.

Report of the Nominating Committee by Brent Foster

  • Nominates Bert Zylstra to a 3-year term as elder.
  • Nominates Preben Pedersen and Serena Klassen to serve on the 2021 Nomination Committee.
  • Nominates LaDean Seibel to serve as an alternate on the 2021 Nomination Committee. The report is taken as information.

Given that Serena Klassen has joined the staff of Sturgeon Alliance Church and thus is no longer able to serve on the nomination committee,
MSC that LaDean Seibel be nominated as an active member of the 2021 Nomination Committee and that the floor be opened to nominations for the alternate member of the 2021 Nomination Committee.

MC to close nominations.  

Election of Elders
Vote for Bert Zylstra taken by secret ballot.
Bert Zylstra was elected with over 60% support of the ballots cast.

Election to 2021 Nominating Committee
Vote for Preben Pedersen, LaDean Seibel, and Paul van Cuilenborg by secret ballot.
Preben Pedersen, LaDean Seibel and Paul Van Cuilenborg were elected with over 60% support of the ballots cast.

MSC to destroy the ballots.

Brent closed in prayer.
